Assessment of Countermovement Jump: What Should We Report?

This study examined the reliability of 45 commonly used CMJ metrics assessed on a force platform in 79 physically active participants across two sessions. Only 24 metrics demonstrated acceptable reliability (CV ≤ 10%). Principal component analysis identified four factors accounting for 91% of CMJ variance: performance, eccentric, concentric, and jump strategy components. The findings provide evidence-based guidance on which variables practitioners should include for a comprehensive evaluation of countermovement jump performance.

Concurrent Validity of Countermovement and Squat Jump Height Assessed with a Contact Mat and Force Platform in Professional Soccer Players

This study assessed the concurrent validity of a portable contact mat (SmartJump) against force plates (ForceDecks) for measuring CMJ and squat jump height in 23 professional male soccer players. Results showed that when both devices used identical flight-time calculation methods, squat jump measurements were equivalent, while countermovement jump readings remained non-equivalent. The study highlights the importance of device-specific calculation methods and the non-interchangeability of different systems in performance monitoring.

Using Drop Jumps and Jump Squats to Assess Eccentric and Concentric Force-Velocity Characteristics

This investigation examined eccentric and concentric force-velocity characteristics during drop jumps from varying heights (0.40, 0.60, 0.80 m) and loaded jump squats (0–85% 1RM) in 14 resistance-trained men. Force platforms and motion analysis were used to record average force and velocity during absorption and propulsion phases. Results demonstrate that drop jump height and squat jump load effectively modulate the force-velocity spectrum, with a two-point method proving sufficient to model both eccentric and concentric relationships accurately.

Jumping into Recovery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Discriminatory and Responsive Force Plate Parameters Following ACL Reconstruction During Countermovement and Drop Jumps

A systematic review and meta-analysis including 33 studies (2,352 participants) examining force plate parameters during CMJ and drop jump in individuals post-ACL reconstruction versus healthy controls. Key findings indicate reduced jump height and altered eccentric peak vertical ground reaction force (vGRF) on the involved limb. The authors conclude that a combination of force plate parameters is required to identify functional deficits post-ACLR, reinforcing the clinical value of force plate assessment in return-to-sport protocols.
